Challenge

The town of New Norcia is a place of strong spiritual and religious significance, it is also the only monastic town in Australia. When you are located an hour and a half from Perth, a website plays the crucial role in any tourism strategy, therefore the new website was based upon creating a rich user experience that would enable visitors to immerse themselves in the many facets of New Norcia’s rich history and invite them to visit the town.

The Benedictine Community of New Norcia required a much improved web presence. Their previous website was dated and did not conform to modern web standards, nor was it representative of other marketing collateral in use. It also failed to showcase the breadth of services on offer as important information is buried several pages deep. And although there was an online shop, the purchasing experience was poor.

Additionally, the back-end of the website required upgrading as the process to update the old website was difficult and time-consuming – leading to infrequent revisions and out-dated information.

Response

Following an in-depth Discovery Phase with all community stakeholders that clearly addressed and documented the website needs and parameters we recommended that due to the scale and complexity of the project it would benefit from being completed in several stages.

The first stage would be to implement a flexible, robust and feature-rich Content Management System to allow faster updates and would also accomodate future stage requirements. This stage would also address the overall design of the site bringing it in-line with the brand and modern web design principles and also focus on making it more appealing and intuitive to navigate for users.

Result

Axiom delivered the first stage of the website and the new web store on-time and on-budget and so far the feedback has been resoundingly positive as have the results.

We are working with the community, monitoring feedback and user data to continually make improvements to the site. We are also planning stage two of the project which may include an interactive day planner, bookings modules, etc.
