Axiom were commissioned to develop an integrated signage strategy for both wayfinding and internal signage to their purpose-built state-of-the-art medical research facility at the QEII Hospital campus.

The Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is Western Australia’s premier adult medical research institute, investigating the genetic and environmental causes of a range of diseases.

Formed in 1998 with a vision of fostering a high-level of collaboration between the State’s medical researchers, their team has made, and continues to make, a number of internationally-important discoveries with the potential to deliver better health to the global community.

The wayfinding system is created to be an extension of the building’s architecture. The elegant sculptural forms are inspired by the material palette and the hexagonal matrix detail used throughout the building as well as paying a subtle homage to the DNA helix.

The simplicity of their form and typography combine to create a legible, intuitive and architecturally harmonious solution.

Working in close partnership with the both the Architects and client to develop a signage solution that would do justice to this landmark building.

We also sought the advice of our strategic signage partners to refine both materials and construction methodology and provided highly detailed signage schedule and oversaw the production signage prototypes to ensure the outcome would meet with our expectations.
